As a child, Lucas Vera had dealt with the rumors about his family. His father was a wealthy business man who traveled more then he was home. His mother, who always seemed to have a new "uncle" for Lucas when his father was gone, was a stay at home mom. Being an only child he had long since discovered that his parents used him as a plaything. They ignored him when they didn't need him as a bargining chip in their ever continuous arguments. Which was perfectly fine with him. He had already developed a passion for music.
When his mother had run off with the latest guy in her life when he was ten, she had left him in care of the next door neighbor while his father was gone on a business trip. When he had returned after two weeks of not even calling and checking up on his son, the first thing he had done was hire a nanny to take care of Lucas while his father was gone.
Before his fourteenth birthday, his father had remarried. The lucky woman this time around was none other than...his nanny. Go figure. At least now it made sense why the nanny had spent so much time with them while his father was home. Not that Lucas cared. To him, it didn't matter what happened to his parents. They didn't care what happened to him, after all. He still didn't know why this had surprised him. But it had.
Soon after the marriage, Lucas's new step-mother had decided that being the new Mrs. Charles Vera and dealing with a child was too much. So, she had talked his father into sending him off to school. For the rest of his high school career, he had attended boarding school in Connecticut. Not even bothering to go home on breaks, he had gone on trips with his classmates or even just stayed at school. This period had been the best in his life. His love of music had been allowed to develop, foster, and become a dream. Lucas knew that he didn't really have the ability to make it as a professional musician. Sure, he had talent and could sing. But that wasn't what he loved. His favorite thing to do was to sit and make lists of albums, songs, musicians, singers, anything he could think of. You've heard of IMDB? Lucas used his time in school to become the music version.
After graduating, he immediately entered Yale University. As a dual major in music and communications, he completed his degree in four quick years. While in school, he worked with the University's radio station, eventually becoming the producer of the most popular show in the station's history. He still got calls from the school wanting help, advice, whatever.
Deciding, after completing college, that he needed a new start, somewhere away from people who might know about his father and where he could make it on his own, Lucas moved across the country. After several interviews, he landed a job as producer for Seattle's 103.7. He found an apartment, sharing it with the two jockey's who were quickly making his show - his baby, the morning drive - the most popular in the city.
It wasn't long before his life had changed totally. He had fallen in love with one of the jockeys - Lily Grey was his other half. Over the time that he's been in Seattle, the show has been through a few different co-hosts, Lucas had gotten more responsibilties. And, perhaps most importantly, he was now engaged. And happy. To him, that was what mattered. |
